In May 2011, "Outdoor Life" chose Bend as the #1Town in America for Sportsmen!
300 days of sunshine each year and only about 12" of precipitation! Yet Mt Bachelor, just a short drive from downtown, averages 370" of snow annually, providing world-class downhill and XC skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing.
And a Great Place to Live! Many who vacation here decide they want to stay! - Oregon's highest per capita ratio of restaurants! Likewise on per capita ratio of dogs! Also an abundance of art galleries, antique shops, festivals and concerts, for a nice balance of cultural delights. But for many, golf is the big allure. Even the President of the PGA of America chooses to live in Bend! With 24 golf courses in the area, including 5 that rank in the "Top 100" in the nation, it's no wonder! Most courses are open three seasons, with a few open all four.
While Central Oregon offers a full array of economic opportunity, it is also home to many resort areas, both within Bend city limits and in the surrounding areas. Some are home to lucky retirees while others are vacation getaways for hard-working visitors from other areas around the country who enjoy its amenities of golf, fishing, skiing and snowboarding, biking, or just fine relaxing in picture-perfect surroundings and pleasant climate.
Bargain Prices
A few short years ago Bend was the fastest-appreciating real estate market in the USA, thanks to the desirability of its amenities and active lifestyle. But then the national economy tumbled and prices in Bend fell, just as they did elsewhere, to the point where prices in the Bend area are now considered by many authorities as making Bend a “Best Buy” in real estate in the USA.
FLASH!!! Fiserv Case Schiller index (July 13, 2011) predicts Bend will be the #2 Best Housing Market for the next 5 years!
